Guido : 43 - RAFFIA CRAFT MIRO : AN EXCEPTIONAL DESIGNER

6000 to 7000 pairs are delivered each year. 20 to 25 models are created as well as special models required by customers.

After a Parisian stay where he had a show room dedicated to the conception and to the fabrication of handmade fashion accessories, Miro opened a workshop with men only in Salé in 1990; then, at the beginning of the year 2000 he relocated in Essaouira, on Agadir Street, following the advice of a representative from the Ministry for the Craft Industry who convinced him to leave Salé and Casablanca and to settle here.
Nowadays, his two biggest clients are Australia and Italy plus others in Europe. By comparison local sales are poor.

Miro has one workshop in the Craft Centre at the entrance of the town facing the Blue Hour Palace where some twenty women are working and another one not far from his shop where other women are in training as he wants to be able to provide for all his orders himself and not send them to another manufacturer.
He used to elaborate prototypes that he sold back to great designers: he worked for Agnes B. for nine years and for luxurious Italian brands.

Now in his present workshop everything is done by hand: the soles are cut out, the raffia is plaited, then embroidered or threaded with pearls….all this with a rare fineness. Miro dropped all accessories and dedicates himself solely to the making of shoes. Leather and raffia, silk, embroidered or pearled, superb models of shoes for men or women: sandals, babouches, ballerinas, flip-flops or slippers all hand sewed and handmade; they are 100% natural without any nails or any plastic added.

Surrounded with women in his workshops, he is creative, inventive and dynamic and his company is thriving with products that are always original, aesthetic, comfortable and chic. With impeccable quality in mind and with a view to perfection, Miro himself watches over the dye baths for the raffia so that they are always identical for each of his clients and partners.

Coming from Madagascar the fibre arrives rough and is dyed here in town in his dying workshop in Chbanate Street on the North of the Medina. His shop window in Essaouira: a very simple little shop in Agadir Street where some models are exposed. Imitations are present in the town in great number but the real true address is this one.

Fine, delicate, comfortable, always chic: shoes that sublime the feet! Do not pass them!
